What the Independent thinks of the Church of England

The "zombie" church.

So I am a bigot and a zombie

In the article the author states "Whatever Welby's qualities, however, the truth is that he's taking charge of an organisation which doesn't matter to most of the population."

It was 'most of the population' that saved Barabus and wanted Jesus to be crucified.

Now we are learning that the Bride of Christ, doesn't matter to most of the population.

So what does matter to the population?

"In a modern democracy, no religion should be treated as part of the state apparatus, dominating public ceremonies and automatically having the ear of the prime minister and monarch"

So humanism and secularism needs to operate then in a state of democracy.

"The zombie church? It's a great metaphor for an institution that steadfastly refuses to modernise."
